Sustainability Policy

Our Commitment to Sustainability

This sustainability statement relates to the website and operations of STIL Homes (Supporting Tenants Independent Living).

STIL Homes is committed to embedding environmentally responsible practices across our housing developments, tenancy services, and day-to-day operations. Our mission includes not only supporting independent living but also fostering sustainable, inclusive communities that minimise environmental impact and enhance long-term wellbeing.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

STIL Homes actively works to reduce its ecological footprint and aligns our practices with the following frameworks:

  • Australia’s National Strategy for Ecologically Sustainable Development

  • South Australia’s Climate Change and Greenhouse Emissions Reduction Act 2007

  • NDIS Specialist Disability Accommodation Design Standards promoting energy efficiency and accessible living

  • Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011 (SA)

  •

This policy applies to all STIL Homes staff, contractors, builders, suppliers, and service providers involved in our developments and operations.

Our Sustainable Practices

We incorporate sustainability into our work through:

  • Energy-Efficient Design
Using energy-rated materials, insulation, passive solar design, and LED lighting in new builds and refurbishments

  • Water Conservation
Installing low-flow fixtures, water-wise landscaping, and rainwater harvesting where feasible

  • Sustainable Procurement
Prioritising suppliers and materials that meet environmental and ethical standards, including local sourcing when possible

  • Construction Waste Reduction
Reducing landfill waste through recycling programs and responsible construction waste management

  • Tenant Education and Support
Encouraging sustainable living practices among participants, including responsible energy use and recycling

  • Continuous Improvement
Monitoring environmental performance, reviewing practices annually, and staying updated with evolving green building standards and legislation

Governance and Responsibility

Sustainability is embedded into our planning, construction, and operational decision-making. Responsibility for implementing and reviewing this policy lies with STIL Homes leadership, who work closely with site managers, contractors, and stakeholders to meet sustainability targets.

Feedback and Reporting

STIL Homes encourages feedback and suggestions for improving our sustainability practices. We take all concerns seriously and use them to enhance our environmental performance.
